Event: Gorge Waterfalls 50k, Daybreak Racing
Date: April, 2024
Location: Cascade Locks, Oregon
The Gorge Waterfalls 50k was a beautiful symphony of singletrack trails, rock, and cascading beauty. Our runners tore through the mist-shrouded trails, their legs a steady rhythm against the backdrop of numerous, world-reknown thunderous Oregon waterfalls. Racing upstream against the Columbia River, the lush forest was a welcome sanctuary on this warmer than average April day. While the waterfalls were a welcome distraction, the relentless climbs and slick descents tested every ounce of resolve. Halfway through, a runner slipped, as is her tradition, but with grit and a wild determination, she scrambled back up, knee bloody, pride fractured. Despite it’s name, ultra marathon mediocrity is not given, but is earned. As the final waterfall loomed ahead, the finish line wasn’t just a mark on a map — it was a baptism in the raw power of nature, earned step by step, drop by drop
