Event: Summer Camp (Because adults have fun too)
Date: July, 2025
Location: Kings Beach, California
Summer time, and the livin’s easy, unless you’re training is being programmed by CTS. Then, it’s back to back long runs determined by the number of daylight hours on the summer solstice. All jokes aside, our intrepid sloths decided they were fast enough to try and run a very slow 100 mile race. With that goal, came the training, and with that training, came the camp.
Why call it a camp, and not a vacation? Well, training camps aren’t quite vacations, in that vacations are usually more relaxing. But at the same time, training camps aren’t quite vacations in that they’re usually more fun. A plan to go sit in a resort and drink a lot can leave one feeling less than, needing a vacation to recover from the vacation. But a camp, with a stated goal, early bed times, and a fun itinerary can rejuvenate the soul faster than Captain Jack Sparrow and the fountain of youth. While the camp was fun, our mediocre milers are not in fact getting any younger. The miles were long and slow, but the views were spectacular and the trails about as perfect as a hot cup of coffee on a snowy Saturday morning. The watchful gaze of the ponderosa pines guided us ever so listlessly through the forest, while the terpenes soothed away our worries.
As we crested the summit of Mt. Baldy, the view (pictured above) gently reminded us why we were out of breath. Homemade rice crispy treats provided a well needed respite before we turned and headed back down to the lake, and a well-deserved coca cola slushie. @Mediocremiles_
